Barefoot Glyn

Barefoot Glyn
Barefoot Glyn from Porthdinllaen
After dark began
Up the cliff to reach the boy
Such a careful man

31st of August he
1976
Took off boots and socks to climb
Up the cliff to fix

80 feet above the sea
How to get him down
Coaxing carefully and slow
Brought him gently down

Glyn fell off the cliff to bounce
On the beach below
Battered - but a spring-heel man
Jumped up fast to show

How to board the boarding boat
Once he'd reached the ground
Picked the boy up - and his mate
Danger all around

Brave Glyn Roberts - lifeboat man
Coxswain John Scott too
Safely hauled the boys aboard
To the willing crew

Glyn's Bronze Medal brought his words
Showed his braveness clear
"I think they must have been short
Of heroes for that year"

Barefoot Glyn from Porthdinllaen
After dark began
Up the cliff to reach the boy
Such a caring man
