The Indian Chief

The Indian Chief
05 January 1881

On the night of the Indian Chief
Charles Fish and his men
On the night of the Indian Chief
They froze to the skin
But they were determined
Determined to save
On the night of the Indian Chief
Charles Fish and his men

The Indian Chief went aground
On Long Sand near by Kent
The Bradford from Ramsgate
Was towed by the Vulcan to sea
Charles Fish and his men soaked and
Frozen along the long way
ch
The Indian Chief was elusive
At last she was found
By waiting the storm out all night
Then by daylight to see
The Indian Chief was a wreckage
Spread round a long way
ch
Main mast and mizzen mast gone
And her bulwark washed off
With spars and dead bodies afloat
Seventeen in the sea
We picked up eleven alive
And then went on our way
ch
I know in my heart - without fear -
From the hour that we left
To the time that we rescued the living
Eleven at sea
We had only one thought - that to
Save all the men on our way

On the night of the Indian Chief
Charles Fish and his men
On the night of the Indian Chief
They froze to the skin
But they were determined
Determined to save
On the night of the Indian Chief
Charles Fish and his men
